CUT FROM ROUGH

Discoveries are still sporadic and always astonishing occurrences. since 2008, out of the eighteen million tonnes mined and five million carats recovered, only five world-class blue diamonds have emerged from Cullinan, or less than 0.1 per cent of the mine’s annual yield.

According to the GIA, color diamonds represent approximately 3% of their submissions worldwide, and pink diamonds represent only 5% while blue diamonds estimate less than 4% of the color diamonds submitted.

This blue diamond was discovered in its rough form at a total weight of 6.94-carats at the Rooipoort Mine in the northern Cape province in south Africa.
